The Jožef Stefan Institute is participating in the new Horizon Europe project AIR-FERT – Modular Electrified Platform for Capture and Conversion of Airborne Nitrogen and Sulfur Oxides into Fertilizers (Grant Agreement No. 101306967).
The four-year project runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2030 and is led at the Jožef Stefan Institute by Assist. Prof. Sašo Gyergyek, PhD, from the Department for Materials Synthesis (K8).
As part of the AIR-FERT project, researchers are developing an innovative, electrified modular device to capture nitrogen and sulfur oxides from industrial and agricultural emissions and convert them into fertilizer precursors. The system combines advanced materials and electrocatalysis to enable the direct production of fertilizer solutions, thereby contributing to the circular economy, cleaner air, and Europe’s climate goals.
Researchers from the Department for Materials Synthesis are primarily focusing on the development of catalysts and multifunctional sorbents.
